How VAT Works for Talent in Norway

Last updated: June 5, 2026

If your tax residence is Norway, value-added tax (VAT) may apply to the services Lifted provides to you. This article explains when VAT applies, the current rate, and how to manage your VAT information.

When VAT applies

  • VAT applies if your tax residence is set to Norway and you have not provided a valid Norway VAT ID.

  • VAT may apply whether you live, have a permanent address, or are temporarily residing in Norway.

If you move to another country, update your tax information in your account. We’ll automatically adjust the taxes we collect based on your updated residence.

If you update your tax residence, legal name, or other tax details, you may need to revalidate your VAT ID.

Which services VAT applies to

VAT applies to the fees Lifted currently charges for services:

  • Service fees

If we add new paid features in the future and local tax laws require VAT on those services, the applicable tax will appear on your invoice.

VAT rate in Norway

  • The standard VAT rate in Norway is 25%.

You can see the estimated VAT amount on your invoices.

Providing your Norway VAT ID

You’re not required to provide a VAT ID to use Lifted. However, if you enter a valid Norway VAT ID in your tax information, we won’t collect VAT on applicable services. Your VAT ID will appear on your invoices.

If VAT was already collected before you added a valid VAT ID, we’re unable to refund it. Once collected, VAT is remitted directly to the Norwegian tax authority. You may be able to claim a credit through your tax authority.

VAT ID format in Norway

A Norway VAT ID is issued when you register for VAT with the Norwegian tax authority. It is not the same as your personal tax identification number.

A Norway VAT ID:

  • Contains 12 alphanumeric characters

  • Includes 9 numeric digits followed by “MVA”

Example: 123456789MVA

For registration guidance, contact the Norwegian tax authority or a qualified tax advisor.

How to add or update your Norway VAT ID

You can add or update your VAT ID at any time:

  1. Go to Settings and select Tax information.

  2. Scroll to the Value-added tax section and click Edit.

  3. Enter your VAT details.

  4. Select Save.

Exemptions from VAT in Norway

Norway does not offer exemptions from VAT on services that Lifted provides. You can avoid VAT charges by providing a valid VAT ID in your tax information.

What happens if you update your location or other information

If you change your tax residence in your account, we’ll automatically adjust the taxes we collect to match your new country’s VAT rates, if any.

You may need to enter a new VAT ID if you move to a new country, or revalidate your VAT ID if you change your legal name.
