Engagement Pathway FAQs: How It Works and What to Expect
Last updated: April 22, 2026
What are engagement pathways?
An engagement pathway is the way you and a client choose to work together through Lifted (for example, through an independent contractor engagement or assignment by an employer of record). Because Lifted supports multiple engagement pathways, however, you may not be able to participate in certain pathways at the same time in order to maintain clarity and consistency across engagements.
If I choose one engagement pathway, which other pathways might become temporarily unavailable?
Generally, you can choose to engage through either the EOR or IC pathway but not both at the same time. This helps keep engagement boundaries clear and ensures consistency and clarity across your engagements. When you choose to engage in a particular engagement pathway, you will receive advance notification of how this will impact your ability to participate in other engagement pathways so that you are in control of what opportunities you want to pursue through the platform.
How will I know what engagement pathways are available to me?
Before you accept an engagement opportunity, you’ll see a notification explaining that if you’re engaged for that opportunity, some other engagement pathways will become temporarily unavailable—and it will flag which pathways would be affected.
How is the pathway determination made?
Your recent and active engagements through the Lifted platform determine whether and when particular engagement pathways are open to you.
Do changes to the engagement pathways that are available to me affect my active engagements or payments through the platform?
No, such changes do not impact your active engagements or affect payment for completed or active work. If you already have an active engagement, your work and payments continue as usual.
Are there exceptions?
No.
Will it be clear in the platform which opportunities are within my available engagement pathways?
Yes, you will only see engagement opportunities that align to your available engagement pathways, and if your available pathways change, opportunities under those pathways will become available to you automatically—no extra steps required.
