How VAT Works for Talent in Nigeria

Last updated: June 17, 2026

If your tax residence is Nigeria, value-added tax (VAT) may apply to the services Lifted provides to you. This article explains when VAT applies, the current rate, and how to manage your VAT information.

When VAT applies

  • VAT applies if your tax residence is set to Nigeria.

  • VAT may apply whether you live, have a permanent address, or are temporarily residing in Nigeria.

If you move to another country, update your tax information in your account. We’ll automatically adjust the taxes we collect based on your updated residence.

Which services VAT applies to

VAT applies to the fees Lifted currently charges for services:

  • Service fees

If we add new paid features in the future and local tax laws require VAT on those services, the applicable tax will appear on your invoice.

VAT rate in Nigeria

  • The standard VAT rate in Nigeria is 7.5%.

You can see the estimated VAT amount on your invoices and in your transaction history.

Providing your Nigeria VAT ID

You’re not required to provide a VAT ID to use Lifted. Providing a VAT ID does not exempt you from VAT in Nigeria—VAT will be collected whether or not you provide it. If you add your VAT ID, it will be displayed on your invoices.

A Nigeria VAT ID is issued by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and contains 12 numeric digits, for example: 01012345-0001.

You can enter your VAT ID from your account’s tax information page.

VAT exemptions in Nigeria

Nigeria does not offer exemptions from VAT on services Lifted provides. Providing your VAT ID does not qualify you for an exemption.

What happens if you update your location or other information

If you change your tax residence in your account, we’ll automatically adjust the taxes we collect to match your new country’s VAT rates, if any. Some countries may require a valid VAT ID or similar documentation.
