Last updated: October 18, 2026
If your tax residence is in the United States, state and local sales tax may apply to the service fees Lifted charges you. This article explains when sales tax applies, how rates are determined, and where you can see charges in your account.
What U.S. sales tax is
Sales tax in the United States is imposed by state and local governments on certain goods and services. In some states and local jurisdictions, sales tax applies to digital services, including the service fees Lifted charges.
Sales tax rules vary by state and local jurisdictions where you and your client are located. Not all locations apply sales tax to platform service fees.
When sales tax applies
Sales tax is determined based on the tax residence and address listed in your account.
If you have entered a tax residence in Tax information, tax is calculated based on that location.
If no tax residence is listed, tax may be assessed based on the address in your account settings.
You’re responsible for keeping your address and tax residence up to date. If you move — even temporarily — update your information to avoid incorrect tax assessments.
Which services sales tax applies to
Sales tax applies to the fees Lifted currently charges for services:
Service fees
If we add new paid features in the future and local tax laws require sales tax on those services, the applicable tax will appear on your invoice.
Where to see sales tax charges
You can view sales tax charges in your account:
During checkout, you’ll see an estimated tax amount before payment
Final taxes are calculated at the time of payment
Taxes appear as a separate line item on your invoices and in your transaction history
For recurring charges, such as subscriptions (if applicable in the future), the final tax amount may differ from earlier estimates due to rate changes or location updates.
How can I find out how much sales tax I'll have to pay based on my location in the U.S.?
We recommend referring to your state’s, county’s, and municipality’s tax websites or a tax consultant to find your location's taxes and rates. We can’t list them for all U.S. cities, counties, and states here, since there are so many and tax laws change frequently.
To ensure accurate tax collection, we work with a third-party tax partner to monitor and apply any changes across all jurisdictions where we operate.
Marketplace facilitator sales tax
In some states, marketplace facilitator laws require platforms to collect sales tax from clients on certain transactions. When required, this tax is charged to the client — not to you — and remitted to the appropriate authority.
